The Sonoma Valley Chorale will celebrate classics from spiritual and folk traditions in "Folksongs & Spirituals.”
The community choir will perform arrangements of song cycles by contemporary British composer John Rutter, from spiritual classics in the style of Satchmo, Dixieland and Scott Joplin to the pining, earthy folk songs of Britain and Scotland.
The program will showcase the solo voice of Ruthann Lovetang, an alto and long-time member of the Chorale. Also featured is soloist Sheila Whitney Stanfield. A long-time Chorale member who is returning to the group with this performance, Stanfield is a voice teacher who’s known locally as “The Singing Waitress” of the Breakaway Café in Sonoma.
The Sonoma Valley Chorale, led by artistic director David Irvine, is in its 44th season. The Chorale welcomes singers without auditioning to participate in its concerts in Sonoma, in the Valley of the Moon, an hour north of San Francisco.
