It's the height of flu season and public health officials want to know where it's headed next. On today's North Bay Report we learn of a project to use "Big Data" to improve estimates of flu trends.

Michael Davidson, Dotan Haim and Jennifer Radin have developed a new way using a knowledge of social networks, Google Flu Trends and data from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to improve predictions for circulating levels of influenza. Their work was published Jan. 29 in Scientific Reports.
