Embattled Sonoma County Supervisor Efren Carrillo found no support from his colleagues at this week's Board meeting, as all four urged him to step down, as did most of the speakers in a lengthy public comment period.

Supervisor Carrillo’s misdeeds drew a large and impassioned crowd of respondents that included many self-acknowledged recovering alcoholics and survivors of sexual abuse or assault. Some of the former urged him to give his recovery priority over his political career, while many of the other group denounced Carrillo as a “sexual predator.” Few were as heated in their denunciations as Supervisor Shirlee Zane.

The Sonoma County Gazette editorialized in support of Carrillo

Vesta Copestakes, publisher of the Sonoma County Gazette, has been a staunch Carrillo supporter for most of the young supervisor’s political career, and organized a show of support at Tuesday’s board meeting. But after hearing all the comments, her defense for the west county representative faltered a bit.
