Caroline Rose, Lindi Ortega, Lake Street Dive and more – this week on World Café!

May 14, 2018

Here is who to listen for this week on World Cafe with host Talia Schlanger:

Monday, May 14th – Caroline Rose

Caroline Rose - Monday 5/14 on World Cafe

Caroline Rose's new album is a dramatic departure from the alt-country sound of her first two albums. On Loner, her razor-sharp wit and smart lyrics tackle subjects like single motherhood to fighting the patriarchy. We'll discuss that, her sonic evolution, and ambitions as a producer.

Tuesday, May 15th – Lindi Ortega

Lindi Ortega - Tuesday 5/15 on World Cafe

Lindi Ortega's latest release, called Liberty, is as much a spaghetti Western-style redemption story as it is an album. The new record came after she nearly quit singing, having spent over a decade and a half building her career. She shares what made her want to return to music and reflects on the redemptive power of love, both from her fans and her new husband.

Wednesday, May 16th – Lake Street Drive

Lake Street Dive - Wednesday 5/16 on World Cafe

The band Lake Street Dive performs music from their new album, Free Yourself Up. And the group's 4 founding members, Rachel, Mike, Bridget and McDuck tell stories about the early days when they crammed into Mike's Subaru to tour and the not-so-early days, when McDuck accepted an invitation to spend the 4th of July eating hot dogs at Stephen Colbert’s house.

Thursday, May 17th – ENCORE: Noel Gallagher

Noel Gallagher - Thursday 5/17 on World Cafe

It's a full hour with Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, an 11 piece ensemble that even includes a scissors player. The band performs live, and frontman Noel reflects on the evolution of his sound since his days writing hits and playing guitar in Oasis, plus how he's making sure his own kids have a different childhood than Noel and his famously feuding brother Liam had.

Friday, May 18th – George Ezra

George Ezra - Friday 5/18 on World Cafe

George Ezra’s 2014 debut LP became the third-best selling album of the year in the UK behind his pals Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran thanks in part to his hit single “Budapest.” To write the songs for his new album called Staying at Tamara’s, Ezra spent time in Barcelona, at yes, at Tamara's place. He'll talk about who Tamara is, and chat about his new podcast and how he landed Elton John as a guest.

Check out who’s in next week’s lineup:
Monday, May 21st – Nashville: Ashley Campbell
Tuesday, May 22nd – ENCORE: Lilly Hiatt
Wednesday, May 23rd – Soccer Mommy
Thursday, May 24th – Donovan Woods
Friday, May 25th – Natalie Prass
