Documenting Restorative Justice in Santa Rosa

Jul 1, 2015

Restorative Justice isn’t a new concept. But it is a radical departure from “zero tolerance," one that is now making a difference in Santa Rosa schools. The results are detailed in a new documentary by a local filmmaker.

John Beck’s film "Restorative Justice: Changing Hearts and Minds,” will be shown on KRCB television Monday evening at 7:30. See a trailer for it below.

The Santa Rosa City School District has now embraced the restorative justice concept, but Susan Kinder , executive director of  Restorative Resources, says that it took some time for the idea to gain traction.

At the core of the restorative justice process are five questions, which are answered by each of the participants. But these questions, says Kinder, are very different that those asked in criminal court proceedings.

Restorative Justice is becoming more widely adopted, notes Kinder, because is it a win-win-win approach that helps everyone involved.
