Many teens dread returning to school… but for some, worries about interacting with their peers can be debilitating. As part of Back to School Week we examine the roots of social anxiety disorder and learn what can be done about it.
Jennifer Shannon’s new book The Shyness and Social Anxiety Workbook for Teens, is designed to coach teens through their worries, helping them gain confidence. Shannon, Clinical Director at the Santa Rosa Center for Behavioral Therapy, says that CBT is a good tool for gradually taking control of thoughts, feelings and actions. Shannon was inspired to write the book after her own daughter, Rose, developed Social Anxiety Disorder. KRCB speaks with both.
