Rescuing the Rio

May 2, 2013

As only movie house for miles around, the Rio Theater has a devoted customer base. But they were only the starting point for the on-line fund-raising effort that succeeded this week in keeping the pictures moving at the Monte Rio meeting place.

The interior ceiling of the Rio Theater seen at right  is clothed with the largest known surviving section of the fabric from Christo’s 1976 “Running Fence” installation. Small pieces of it were among the incentives for larger donors to the Rio’s Kickstarter campaign, which will remain active until 8:47 am on May 7th. (See a historical photo gallery from the Rio here).
