Once again, I seem to be hung up in fabricating Something Completely Differents that feature three (or two or four or more, in loveland...) great singers or instrumentalists or singer/songwriters or poets...and like that. This week...is no different. The three performers under scrutiny on Tuesday the 16th are...
Emmylou Harris, who spent many years as a classic backup singer and many more as a singer of songs, her own and other people's. I guess she first became known as Gram Parsons's partner (another sad unfortunate in the gone-too-soon derby.) Since then, she's sung with just about everyone you can think of, and become a genuine singer-songwriter as well.
Allison Krauss has been singer for the group Union Station for a long time, and has done albums with other great performers, Robert Plant among them. A full-fledged country & western diva.
Gillian Welch is one of my favorite singers and - - wouldn't you know it? - - one of the least prolific, as well. She's been partnered with David Rawlings ever since they were music students together at the Berklee School of Music. Most of their songs are written by the two of them, and they've got a fantastic touch.
So...three singers for Tuesday. Three singers you'd pick out of an entire record store of music. Three singers who aren't easy to forget. Please join me on Tuesday. And - - by the way - - what about another S.C.D. from one of the most controversial people I've ever played on KRCB - - Reverend Osagyefo Uhuru Sekou - - hmmm?
Listen to Something Completely Different every Tuesday night at 7:00 pm on KRCB-FM Radio 91!
