Something Completely Revolutionary on Something Completely Different with your host Roland Jacopetti
Date & Time: March 14, 2017, 7-9PM Location: KRCB-FM (91.1, 90.9, on line at KRCB.org, w/app at iTunes store and Google Play)
One morning, as is my custom, I was watching/listening to Democracy Now! You probably know that the usual Democracy Now! show has two or three or four segments, with musical breaks between them. So here comes this music, and it's extremely compelling, all about how the Revolution has come. Amy Goodman often identifies the music at the end of the break, so I wait for it and...she doesn't identify it. I begin to think about changing the Something Completely Different theme music I've been using for the past twenty years (Theme for Ernie, John Coltrane's version of the Fred Lacey tribute to alto saxophonist Ernie Henry, who passed away the year before this piece was recorded, 1957) to this amazing piece of music. So I called the Democracy Now! staff, and they identified it as The Revolution Has Come by Rev. Sekou & The Holy Ghost. Hmmm. I visited my friends at The Last Record Store in Santa Rosa, and they found the entire CD for me. I asked my listeners if I should change the theme music, and they didn't think it was such a good idea but, having listened to all nine cuts on the album, I decided to play it, in its entirety, on its own show. And that's what's coming up this Tuesday.
So you'll hear all nine cuts, one after the other, followed by a group of pieces by Gil Scott-Heron (The Revolution Will Not Be Televised), Tom Morello (The Nightwatchman), the late, incredible Nina Simone, and maybe a little Charles Mingus, Miles Davis and, yes, John Coltrane to round things off. This is all happening Tuesday, March 14th, 7 to 9 PM. Please, please...don't miss this show. You need to hear this show. You need to hear that the Revolution has come...and that we've won.
