Sonoma Clean Power Prepares to Get Going

Jul 1, 2013

Electricity will be greener, if not immediately cheaper, when Sonoma Clean Power inaugurates its service early next year. Backers of the new local utility are hoping Santa Rosa, Sebastopol and Sonoma will choose to be part of the project, but say none of those votes are make or break decisions.

Comparison pricing figures, prepared by the Sonoma County Water Agency, anticipate the initial costs to consumers will be very close to current changes from PG&E.

Some critics of Sonoma Clean Power have expressed alarm about what they see as many unanswered questions regarding the details of the new green power program. Woody Hastings of the Climate Protection Campaign staff says that’s a misunderstanding of how the new joint powers authority is intended to operate.
