Why Did Jack London's Wolf House Burn?

Aug 20, 2013

What started the fire that ruined Jack London’s Wolf House in Glen Ellen almost exactly a century ago? A local London scholar thinks he has traced the answer, and is about to make his theory public.

Even though there was no inquiry into the case of the Wolf House fire at the time, Jonah Raskin says that as he sought to unravel what happened, he tried to recreate the conditions and circumstances of that era.

For the past 100 years, the stone walls and towers of Wolf House have been a compelling attraction for visitors to Jack London State Park in Glen Ellen.

Jack London didn’t write mysteries, but Raskin notes that the author’s own life was marked by them. The ravaging of his dream home was just one.
