• Governor Jerry Brown isn’t backing long-term changes to Medi-Cal or Covered California. But he has proposed some one-time allotments that could improve health services for inmates, the mentally ill and rural residents going forward.

• The revised spending plan proposed by Governor Jerry Brown Friday is drawing praise from lawmakers in both political parties for placing much of California’s projected nine billion dollar budget surplus in reserve.

• California Gov. Jerry Brown will release his revised budget proposal this morning as state revenues pour into coffers billions of dollars above projections, setting up a debate over what to do with all that extra money.

• Governor Jerry Brown issued an executive order Thursday to improve the health of the state's forests. It sets aside $96 million for practices like forest thinning, controlled fires and planting trees.

• The U.S. Department of Justice is threatening to subpoena California and several cities within it over sanctuary policies.

• Gov. Jerry Brown is expected to strike less of the "resistance" tone he took in last year's State of the State just four days after President Trump's inauguration. Instead, look for Brown to focus on climate change and the criminal justice system.
