The City of Santa Rosa and County of Sonoma encourage residents rebuilding from the October 2017 wildfires to bring their questions to a Rebuilding Community Meeting on Thursday, February 15, 2018. 

The joint City-County meeting will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Finley Community Center located at 2060 West College Avenue in Santa Rosa. 

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors invites community members to attend and provide input to guide post-fire recovery efforts at a workshop on natural resources and economic development on Tuesday, February 13. Officials from the City of Santa Rosa and other local, state and federal officials will be taking part. 

Sonoma County Assessor, William F. Rousseau, is urging residents displaced by the October 2017 wildfires to update their mailing address with the Assessor’s office. 

“We are working with the Sonoma County Tax Collector, Erick Roeser, on insuring that all property tax mailings are up to date,” said William F. Rousseau, Sonoma County Assessor.  

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors invites community members to attend and provide input at the Housing Recovery Workshop TOMORROW - Tuesday, February 6th, 2018. 

Representatives from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Burbank Housing, North Coast Builders Exchange, City of Santa Rosa, County of Sonoma, Sonoma Clean Power, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Sonoma County Transportation Authority, and the California Department of Housing and Community Development will present information on a number of topics. 

Sonoma County Clerk, William F. Rousseau, is urging residents displaced by the October 2017 wildfires to update their mailing address with the Registrar of Voters so that they receive voting materials for upcoming elections. 

“We want to help voters who may have been impacted by the wildfires understand how to update their voter registration. With thousands of voters displaced by the recent wildfires, we want to ensure that everyone who wishes to participate in the upcoming elections is given the opportunity to do so,” said William F. Rousseau, Sonoma County Clerk. 

Supervisors seek public input to guide recovery efforts at three upcoming workshops

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors invites community members to attend and provide input to guide post-fire recovery efforts at three upcoming public workshops. Each workshop will focus on a different topic, including Housing, Natural Resources, Economic Development, Health and Human Services, and Infrastructure. 

Topic areas will be discussed on the following dates:

Community meeting will be held Saturday, January 13 at 10:00 a.m. 

Federal, state, county and city leaders will all come together next week for a Recovery & Rebuilding Town Hall in Santa Rosa on Saturday, January 13 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The Town Hall will be an opportunity for residents to receive updated information on debris removal and what to expect during the rebuilding process in the months to come.

Pre-Paying Property Taxes

What Sonoma County Property Owners Should Know

The Sonoma County Tax Collector is receiving a number of inquiries from property owners who wish to “pre-pay” property taxes prior to January 1, 2018, resulting from the federal tax bill with a new $10,000 limit on state and local taxes that may be deducted for federal income tax purposes. 

Multiple agencies working collaboratively to warn residents of risk of flooding and mudflows in identified medium and high risk burn areas  

California Penal Code Section 396 generally prohibits charging a price that exceeds, by more than 10 percent, the price of an item before a state or local declaration of emergency. This law applies to those who sell food, emergency supplies, medical supplies, building materials and gasoline. The law also applies to repair or reconstruction services, emergency cleanup services, transportation, freight and storage services, hotel accommodations and rental housing.

To provide a financial boost for those affected by the Sonoma County fires, the  Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund (SOS) is offering special assistance grants to  low-income residents for up to $3000. The grants aim to help those who lost possessions, jobs or income due to the fires: get or keep housing by paying a month’s mortgage, rent or security deposit; cover utility bills; buy essential household furniture, a wheelchair or other vital health aids; or cover costs of  medically required dental care and non-routine automotive repairs for critically needed transportation.  

Residents recovering from the October 2017 fires in California have less than two weeks left to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for disaster assistance. The last day to register is Dec. 11, 2017. 

This weekend, the City of Santa Rosa and County of Sonoma, in coordination with state and federal partners, will hold three resource fairs focused on debris removal.

Residents whose properties were destroyed by the wildfires have the ability to access the government-operated Fire Debris Removal Program to ensure their property is left free of hazardous waste and debris; the deadline to apply for the program is November 13, 2017.

Sonoma County residents whose properties were destroyed by the wildfires have the ability to access the government operated Sonoma County Consolidated Debris Fire Removal Program to ensure that their property is left free of hazardous waste and debris.  Residential property owners must submit a Right of Entry (ROE) form by close of business on November 13, 2017, in order to participate in the Program.  

The County of Sonoma and City of Santa Rosa are working with state and federal partners to provide safe, immediate, transitional, and long-term housing to assist residents who were displaced by the recent tragic fires and stabilize the immediate housing crisis faced by residents. It is estimated that nearly 5,000 residential units were destroyed in the fires. At their meeting today, the Board of Supervisors approved leasing 80 existing Recreational Vehicle (RV) spaces at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds to house Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Temporary Housing Units.

As the rainy season approaches, multiple state, regional and local agencies are preparing for the potential impacts of the recent wildfires on urban and rural communities. There are 617 streams in the areas affected by fire in Sonoma County. Drinking water is safe and continually monitored, but because the county’s natural watersheds filter drinking water, it is critically important that ash, debris and other pollutants are prevented from entering stream systems to the maximum extent possible.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is working with local, state and federal partners on the response to the Northern California fires. EPA is leading the survey, collection and disposal of household hazardous waste (HHW) in Sonoma and Napa counties. This work will allow other state and federal agencies to remove ash and other non-hazardous debris and the rebuilding process to begin. 

   

The County of Sonoma and the City of Santa Rosa have opened two Local Assistance Centers (LAC) in partnership with FEMA and the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES).

In coordination with state and federal partners, the County of Sonoma will hold a community meeting from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2. The meeting will be held at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall located at 126 1st St. West, in Sonoma.

FIRES COMMUNITY MEETING - October 26, 2017 at 6:00 PM

The Local Assistance Center is a one-stop-shop with critical government services for residents who have been impacted by the fires. Replace lost or destroyed vital documents (ID, financial information, etc.) and get connected with financial support services such as insurance information and apply for FEMA aid. Disaster assistance is available to all members of our community. You will not be asked to show proof of legal citizenship to receive assistance.  

Sonoma County Animal Services Update

 

Sonoma County Animal Services (SCAS) has been working around the clock since early Monday, October 9th, to rescue and shelter animals affected by the fires. Sonoma County Animal Services is a program of the Department of Health Services.  

SCAS will host a pet supply fair this Saturday, October 21st, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at our warehouse at 133 Aviation Blvd. in Santa Rosa to provide free animal care supplies to our community.
