  Jack Kerouac’s On The Road had a literary antecedent written by another Jack 50 years earlier, The Road by Jack London. London scholar Jonah Raskin discussed the similarities in themes and in the two authors’ lives with Bruce Robinson back in September 2007, in this story from the North Bay Report archives.

A Dark Musical Biography of Jack London

  All this week, the North Bay report is revisiting archival stories about lesser known aspects of Jack London’s life and work. We begin today with a look back at the 2006 biographical opera, “Every Man Jack,” composed by Libby Larsen.

Tiffany Camhi

Once a year visitors to Jack London State Historical Park can experience how the famed adventurer and writer lived as a farmer in the Valley of the Moon. This year the event, known as Plowing Play Day, was part of a summer-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of London’s death. KRCB’s Tiffany Camhi was there.

  The Valley of the Moon will observe a Jack London centennial this summer, in many ways—even a new musical anthem.

The Transcendence Theatre Company's fifth season of Broadway Under the Stars at Jack London State park opens with three consecutive weekends of a  show called This Magic Moment. The first performance is June 17.

Only once, says Doc Stull, did London’s writing incorporate a scene that could be seen as a team competition—and seeing it that way is a bit of a stretch.
