Here is who to listen for this week on World Cafe with host Talia Schlanger:

Monday, May 14th – Caroline Rose

Caroline Rose's new album is a dramatic departure from the alt-country sound of her first two albums. On Loner, her razor-sharp wit and smart lyrics tackle subjects like single motherhood to fighting the patriarchy. We'll discuss that, her sonic evolution, and ambitions as a producer.

Tuesday, May 15th – Lindi Ortega

Monday, October 2, 2017

Allie X started out as a classically trained theatre performer. After moving to LA to pursue a career in pop songwriting, she got the ultimate vote of confidence – Katy Perry tweeted that Allie’s song was her new jam. Hear the story and a live performance by Allie X on the next World Cafe!

Our guests this week on Art of the Song are Iain Matthews and Andy Roberts of Plainsong. Plainsong was a British folk-rock band, formed in early 1972 by Iain Matthews (formerly of Fairport Convention), Andy Roberts and 2 others. The original group split up before the end of that same year. Some eighteen years later, Andy encountered Iain when he was performing in a pub in Brighton, and the two decided to revive Plainsong. In 2014 they recorded some songs of Richard Farina, to mark the approaching 50th anniversary of his death.
