Rodney Crowell

This week on Folk Alley: a nod to Dad's in honor of Father's Day with music from Steve Martin & Tim O'Brien, Harvey Reid, and Rodney Crowell; new music by Lori McKenna, The Milk Carton Kids, David Francey, Olivia Chaney, Steve Dawson, Twisted Pine and The Slocan Ramblers; favorites from Jason Isbell, The Wood Brothers, and much more.

It’s a special encore broadcast this week, featuring two-time Grammy Award winner and legendary singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell to the solar-powered stage at eTown Hall. Rodney joins forces with eTown host Nick Forster and the eTown house band to share music from his recent collection of recordings entitled Close Ties. Also joining us is talented Texas singer/songwriter Robert Ellis. Plus there’s a great eChievement Award story about an Illinois woman who founded an organization that provides shoes and other vital necessities to people in need around the world.

New Orleans’ Ponderosa Stomp has presented the “unsung heroes of American music” for well over a decade in blues, soul, country, rockabilly and garage rock. Stomp impresario Dr. Ike shares his memories of pioneering the raucous, eclectic gathering, and we visit with this year’s headliner, R&B guitar-woman— aka the Black Female Elvis—Barbara Lynn from Beaumont, TX. We’ll also hear from previous headliner, Arizona Twangmaster Duane Eddy. We’re spinning tracks from Stomp artists including Gary U.S. Bonds, Lazy Lester and Linda Gail Lewis.
