We are live in New Orleans at Preservation Hall for the nouveau stylings and hybrid sounds that have been cooking up in the historic jazz hub since second-generation director and bass player Ben Jaffe took the helm. We hear funky new grooves from the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, whose band members range from 20-somethings to an octogenarian. And we witness the sonic chemistry when the band is paired with singer Tom Waits, bluegrasser Del McCoury and New Orleans hoodoo rocker Dr. John.

Here are the artists coming up this week on WORLD CAFÉ with host Talia Schlanger:

Monday, February 12th – The Barr Brothers

The Barr Brothers are a beautiful folky sort of band made up of brothers Andrew and Brad, and a secret weapon. Sara Pagé plays a harp. She’s rigged it with effects normally used on electric guitar and breaks down her impressive setup, as the Barr Brothers perform live music from their latest album Queens of the Breakers, on Monday’s World Café.

Tuesday, February 13th – Good Booty

Here is what to listen for on World Café this week:

Monday, January 8: The Secret Sisters

Laura and Lydia Rogers were surprised to get signed by a major label so quickly and have the help of some of the best producers to start their career.  But after their second album as The Secret Sisters, they were dropped by their label, they had to file for bankruptcy, and they lost confidence.  What happened next?  Hear their story and some live songs from their latest album on the next World Cafe.
