The Dusbtowl Revival is a high-octane bluegrass meets soul, New Orleans meets Memphis conglomerate made up of 8 musicians. The Dustbowl Revival join us for a live performance, or more accurately, a big party on the next World Cafe. Plus, David Dye reports back on his favorite international musical finds from this year’s globalFEST showcase.

Last year the Dream Syndicate released their first album since they split almost 30 years ago. We’ll talk with band leader Steve Wynn about their reunion, and their early days touring with REM and U2. The Dream Syndicate performs live on the next World Cafe.

Monday, January 15: Lizz Wright 

Soul and gospel singer Lizz Wright delivers some of the finest musicianship we've heard on the Café, as she covers songs made famous by Nina Simone, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Glen Campbell. Those versions appear on Wright's new covers album called Grace, and boy does she deliver on the ideals of grace for Martin Luther King Day on World Café. 

 

Tuesday, January 16: Remembering Delores O'Riordan  

Historical fiction radiates into the present with two novels featured on A Novel Idea. Join Suzanne M. Lang in conversations with Susan Sherman on her novel about mystics and Marie Curie, If You Are There and David Boling, whose novel is The Lost History of Stars, set during brutal Boar Wars in South Africa and told through the experiences of a fourteen year-old girl.
