Armstrong Grove Pipeline Project Stirs Controversy

Dec 8, 2014

A portion of the main water line running through Armstrong Grove now lies on the surface of the forest floor, alongside the public pathway. State Parks is proposing to rebuild it as much as 30 feet underground.

Plans to replace a 60 year old water pipeline that runs through Armstrong Grove are facing questions and opposition from defenders of the ancient redwoods there.

Sukovitzen is opposed to the current state parks plan to rebuild the water pipeline that runs the 1.1 mile length of Armstrong Grove. But he says an earlier proposal was even worse.

At the informal public meetings about the pipeline plan, held in Monte Rio in October and November, quite a few alternatives to the State Parks proposal were suggested. Environmental Coordinator Patricia Dumont runs through them.
