I must confess...the next Something Completely Different has little or nothing to do with politics or the upcoming election. Wait a minute...after scanning down my playlist for the Secrets and Lies extravaganza, I do find one song with political overtones - - Bruce Springsteeen's American Skin (41 Shots) - - but really only overtones. Not one song that's actually about the professional falsehood brokers and clandestine secret keepers that have infected our sad country (wait a minute! Scratch out that "sad". Too Trumpian!).More and more, I'm wishing that we would bring back Bernie for another shot or find other strong Progressive candidates or that I could move to New Zealand, but let's let that pass for now. But, speaking of secrets, here's one about the hitherto unannounced Something Completely Different Welcome to Politics Election Special - it's happening Friday, October 26th. More later.
For now, the Secrets and Lies Extravaganza is very much on my mind and, at the risk of ruining the surprises, I'll tell you about some of the more unusual selections. Where else on this particular earth would you be likely to hear on your radio, all in a two-hour span, Rebellion (Lies) by Arcade Fire, Magnetic Fields In My Secret Place, Next Life Time from Erykah Badu, and Mary Gauthier's I Drink (that one I have played before, but not lately.
By the way, I want to thank those of you who so generously supported our pledge drive during the last Something Completely Different. Just before typing this stuff here, I went through my emails, and keep in mind that this is a Sunday, usually not noteworthy for extensive attempts to raise money. Wow! Not this Sunday. A bewildering number of plea$ for buck$. But listen - - all you can do, actually, is break open the piggy bank and contribute what you can. So, like I see in a lot of those emails, thanks for all that you do.
